Rachel Mason
Since 2001, Rachel Mason (b. 1980) has worked sporadically under the pseudonym Terrestrial Being. As a 21-year old art student, Mason was thrown out of UCLA when she boldly scaled the exterior of an eight-floor building on the campus without using any safety equipment. For her performance, Mason used her alter ego: Terrestrial Being. Risking her own life in the service of such an eccentric celebration of a block scheduled for demolition brought a new sense of radicalism to urban performance.
