The German, Berlin-based artist Christian Jankowski (b. 1968) made a name for himself with works which take a close and satirical look at our media-saturated society. His recent work Heavy Weight History shows a group of Polish weightlifters drenched in sweat as they try to lift up public monuments in Warsaw. By turning heroic art into pure and simple equipment for sport, history is brought into harmony with living bodies, and the melodrama of such historiography is itself unmasked.
